5:8 #6 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
The Greek word for pure means unmixed, unadulterated, unalloyed. It requires self-examination. Is our work done from motives of service or from motives of pay or acknowledgment, from being self-less, or from self-display, from a feeling of unity, or of superiority? This is about intent, and perceptions.
It is difficult to see a purity beyond our own flawed perceptions, because we see everything through that flawed lens. The purer our sight, the purer the lens through which we view everything, the more purity we recognize. Total pureness recognizes total pureness. The only way we can see with such clarity is when we surrender all we are to the Divine and see ourselves and others as God sees us, which is through the lens of love.
So, then, this sixth beatitude might read:
Oh the godlike joy of choosing from pure intentions because when we do, through surrender, we see everything as God sees, which is always through the lens of love. That is joy!

5:7 #5 Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.
There is more to this beatitude than the obvious. The Hebrew word for mercy is one of several untranslatable words where our English is insufficient. It means to see others as God sees them. When we do that, like God, not only do we not judge them, but also we respond with compassion and understanding. Even more, it is seeing ourselves in others, like a reflection. It is being that which we choose to receive. We can only see as God sees through surrender.
So the translation of the fifth beatitude might read:
O the god-like joy when we get right inside other people until we can see with their eyes, think with their thoughts, feel with their feelings, see them as God sees them, for when we do, our hearts open with love and compassion. To be able to see as God sees is only possible through surrender. In doing so, we, too, receive mercy. That is joy!

5:6 #4 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.
The hunger which this beatitude describes is no genteel hunger. It is the hunger of the person who is starving for food, and the thirst of one who will die unless they drink.
There is one further point which only emerges in the Greek. It could have said I want some of the bread, but not the whole loaf. I want some of the water, but not the entire container. The wording Jesus used means I want the whole loaf of bread. I want the entire container of water. I want it all.
I really struggled for days with the research on this beatitude because whatever I found, Jesus told me through prayer was inadequate for what he really said. That it lacked the total truth and the power of this message. So finally after several days, and still being told I was missing something important, I was guided to do an automatic writing exercise where I pray, ask the question, and then write whatever comes through to me.
This is what I received:
Write what I tell you. Write of love. Write of longing for a right relationship with God. A loving relationship. A powerful relationship. That the only way we can be right with God is to surrender to God’s will, and allow God to direct our relationship. A right relationship with God is not from us directing the way, but God doing the Divine will through us, empowering us, empowering others. That is a right relationship with God.
I asked if there is anything else? He said,
It’s our hearts. The longing in our hearts. We have to really want a right relationship with God, not to be afraid of it, but to embrace it. Not a tepid desire, but an all or nothing quest, knowing that this is where lies our bliss and we won’t’ settle for anything less than the highest and best. He said talk about the Truth. The burning Truth. The purifying truth. A truth that challenges us to dare to live as God would have us live. How much, how badly do we want a right relationship with God? A loving relationship? A powerful relationship? An all-time 24/7 relationship, not just when we don’t have anything better to do. All or nothing.
What I finally realized:
It’s not that we must have goodness so that we can connect with God, it’s that we connect with God so that we can have goodness. God is our source for goodness. If we want all from God, then we must first surrender and give our all to God.
Wow. That really is a challenge. Like Jesus shared during the prayer message, there is only one way we can accomplish this directive, and it is with…
Surrender, for only through surrender do we have the total access to and fulfillment of goodness and right relationship with God for which we hunger. Do you sense the surrender pattern Jesus is teaching us in the first half of the beatitudes? When you really think about it, Surrender is the answer to everything. Surrender is the answer.
So…
O the godlike joy when we hunger and thirst for a right relationship with God as the highest priority in our lives because we want all that God offers. In our heart-longing desperation we surrender everything we are and do to the Divine, allowing the loving, purifying and powerful goodness to so fill us to overflowing that we can’t but live and share that goodness all of the time – God’s will flowing through us. Through surrender we are satisfied. This is joy

5:5 #3 Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.
Meek doesn’t mean weak, wimpy, shyly cowering in silence. In Aramaic, the word translated as “meek” means literally those who have softened what is rigid inside. That means when we are rigid about our thinking we are not open to any other viewpoint, even God’s. In our rigidity, we block ourselves from receiving and experiencing the Real Truth, the Eternal Truth. When we soften inside, we become teachable.
Restated:
Oh the god-like joy when we soften what is rigid inside and become teachable by the Divine, opening to and accepting the Eternal Truth, freeing us to experience the highest and best physical life possible while on planet earth. This is joy.

5:4 #2 Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
The specific Greek word for ‘to mourn’ used originally, is the strongest word for mourning in the Greek language. It is the word which is used for mourning for the dead, for the passionate lament for one who was loved.
For what do we mourn as if it were a type of death? When we are spiritually destitute and finally surrender all to our Source, we realize what a mess we’ve made of our lives. We mourn for our regrets, our mistakes, things we said or did wrong, perhaps hurting ourselves, or others. Words and actions we wish we could retract but we can’t, regrets that tear us up inside. We mourn that, in our ignorance, we blunder our way through life, too often missing out on what might have been our bliss if we’d seen or understood more clearly. It is when we look back on our lives at the moment of death and regret what we didn’t have the courage to go for and that it is now too late.
So, paraphrased:
Oh the God-like joy when we finally admit and mourn for our mistakes, for the shambles we made of our lives, because we are comforted by the realization that, mistakes and all, we are loved by God anyway, unconditionally, without judgment, which is precisely how we are to love ourselves, and others. There is no greater comfort than this. To be loved anyway. This is joy.

With permission of Carolyne Cathey, author, inspirational speaker and spiritual counselor. From her talk on “The Joy of the Beatitudes”.
The 8 Beatitudes, or blessings, or the be-attitudes, are the core of the core teachings Jesus came here to share.
What we often don’t realize is the power within the statements. To many of us they have become meaningless. So often when we read through the Beatitudes we skim over them without any realization of the power and depth of their meaning. For one, our lifestyle is so very different, and for another, many of the words either had no accurate translation in the English language, or often the meanings don’t make sense any more, or they come across ho-hum, or they’ve actually come to mean the opposite of the original language.
First, the phrase “blessed are,” when the original Greek word is translated accurately, it means “Oh, the godlike joy of…” The reason that is important is because they are not just wishes of what might be; they are not hopes for future blessings; they are celebrations of what exists right now, at this moment. They are exultant shouts of joy for the Divine blessings that nothing in this physical world can ever take away from us.
5:3 #1 Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Poor in spirit, (not financially, but in spirit). The original meaning for poor spoken at the time describes absolute and abject poverty. it describes the poverty which is beaten to its knees, someone who is absolutely destitute. Why is that something to celebrate? Because it celebrates the person who is so spiritually destitute they realize their own utter lack of resources to meet life, and with nowhere else to turn, put their whole trust in God. It means surrender, the most significant choice we make. Surrender isn’t only about giving, it is mainly about receiving. We are to empty ourselves in surrender so that total love and Truth and guidance can flood into us and fill us to overflowing without restriction. That is when we truly celebrate the fullness of life that is ours to experience from that inner kingdom of heaven that is within us. Not from anything outside of us, but Inside of us always. That is freedom. That is true joy. To personalize this proclamation of triumph.
Oh, the godlike joy when we feel so spiritually destitute that we finally surrender our lives to God, putting all of our trust in our indwelling Unlimited Supplier, not a human. This is joy!

What do You Want – Really? Part 4: Turning Your Goals into Realities – #2 Embodiment
#2: EMBODIMENT
Why? Because… Turning goals into realities is more than wishful thinking; It is an unwavering mental picture of your desire with expectation for the results in form.
BELIEVE IT. KNOW IT WILL HAPPEN. WITHOUT DOUBT.
Embodiment means to live as if you have already achieved your goal – to know that it is already manifested even though you might not yet see the results, but that you know, without doubt, that it is already yours to claim when the timing is right. It means, the ‘now’ is NOW!
#1 Visualization in Part 3 is about mentally seeing the act of completion. Embodying means we move forward with the actions by allowing the messages to flow through us according to God’s will, to even consider the steps to take to accomplish the goal, knowing that God is really in control of the how, when, what it finally looks like, etc. What is vital is to listen to what our Divine Intuition is telling/guiding us to do, then to have the faith to follow through on those urgings. The reason we must believe we’ve received it before we see it is that if we didn’t ‘know, without doubt’ the goal would happen, then we wouldn’t spend treasurable life-moments working on it. See how it all fits together?
Exercise: How might you embody your goal? Write several possibilities, because the more depth in your thought process and the more passion in your desire for fulfillment, then the more real it becomes in your mind, which then transforms into reality through Divine Partnership. Remember, this isn’t about hoping and wishing, but knowing without doubt, in co-creation with your Creator.
True story of transforming from wants, to goals, to realities:
A true success story about Jess, the Reluctant Villain, who changed his life, and set goals by visualizing and embodying his determination to change from his unwanted burden of a Narcissistic Sociopath personality, to one where he could life a normal, loving life with a wife and children and his career.
As you read on the home page, there are 15 million people diagnosed with this personality in the US alone – that is one in 20. They harm many millions more. If you want more information, go to the home page about this personality and the traits. It has been visited by over 178 countries, and recently there were over 1400 hits in one day by people looking for answers. Doctors claim they cannot be cured because they don’t want to change. Wrong!
Truth! With God ALL things are possible! God is the secret in all of life, no matter the issue or situation.
The following is a portion of an ongoing dialogue I had with Jess, the Reluctant Villain, who claimed he was a nar-soc, as he calls it. For more than five months, we had pages of back and forth conversation.
IN THE BEGINNING, he was certain he could never be changed – he didn’t want to change, didn’t see the need to change. He felt no emotion of any kind and yet he manipulated people in destructive ways – not physically (his boundary), but emotionally. And yet, he seemed to be searching for something, for answers, wanting to know why he was like that, because he asked lots of questions. No matter the encouragement I sent him on what his life could be like, to connect with his True Inner Power, at the end, he seemed to harden even more and refuse to shift, as if it was hopeless.
At the point where I decided there was no more point to continuing our discussion, a miracle happened.
Jess sent an email. I’ve compiled several into one.
Jess said,
“I had a moment that i cant explain, i went to the park, i walked the path ive walked many times, never once have i thought about the path, but as i walked it hit me like a lightning bolt, that this isnt me, but at the same time it is, and i can control who i am. when i got to my car, i looked around the park, tears started to come down, and a smile came to my face as i thought about it all, the tears weren’t because i felt bad, but because i saw for even the slightest second of what i could be instead.
i believe it’s true that I can be a better person, i WILL be a better person, Im going later this week to get a Semicolon tattoo so that every time i look at my forearm, im reminded that this isnt where my story ended, its where it began…i will take it 1 day at a time.
i cant change the pain i caused her (his latest ex-target), and I said i was honestly sorry to her this morning, she may not believe me and i understand that, but for me.. that was step 1 step 2 is to not concentrate on my mistakes, but to start my story from here, Chapter 1.
So last night i went and got that tattoo, and i gotta say every time i turn my wrist i see it and its a nice reminder that “This is where my Story begins” thats what was in my head all day, my work day flew by, wasnt constantly thinking the thoughts i normally do, normally im just concerned with what others think of what im doing so i can keep my stock up so to speak, but instead i just did what i needed to do to get my work done, not once caring what others thought of me like normal, i hope its something i can keep up, its a unique feeling to say the least.
I have always had very very violent dreams, and i always remember every dream, (but) last night i had a dream, and for the first time i dont remember it, but it made me wake up with a smile before falling back asleep, might mean nothing, just not something im used to is all.
Everything needs to be put behind me, i WILL make mistakes in the future, but it will be what i do after i make them that i am going to change, What i felt at that park was the first bit of emotion ive felt, it didnt last a whole long time, maybe 2 mins, but i want to feel that again, and i know i will.” ~ Jess
Does this man have a goal? Is the Divine working in and through him to bring about this miracle? Did you note the key words to success?
“I believe. I know I will.” He believes. He knows it will happen. Without doubt.
He even got a tattoo as a constant reminder to himself. The man whose life was hell, and made others’ lives hell, and who had no hope for changing, now believes he can and will change. And the change is already happening. He has decided to take it one day at time. Does he know the how? No, but he trusts, for the first time in his physical existence, that there is a better life for him and he’s going after it with all he has – focus, purpose, intention.
The reason I’ve inserted this life story here is because if Jeff’s life can change (when experts claim otherwise), then yours can too. Yours will.
Believe. Know it will happen. Without doubt.

***REMEMBER: You do not have to know the HOW, only the WHAT. The Divine takes care of the how. Listen to the urgings of your heart, the passions; those are God-seeds planted there for you to use and develop for your happiness and joy. In fact, the Divine is with you through everything – the entire process – as a co-creator of which goals are best for you, your belief in and trust that the goals are already yours, along with the Divine Implementer carrying out the how to a successful result – thought into form, cause into effect.

Did you finalize your list of goals? Great! Congratulations! That is a huge step into turning your goals into realities because if you don’t know what you want, you’ll not achieve them.
#1: VISUALIZATION
Why? Because…
Turning goals into realities is more than wishful thinking;
It is an unwavering mental picture of your desire with expectation for the results in form.
BELIEVE IT. KNOW IT WILL HAPPEN. WITHOUT DOUBT.
The secret! None of the realities will happen without… FAITH. Turn everything over to your Source, to God, to the Divine that not only knows what is best for you, but the how, why, what and when.
Transforming your goals into Reality:
- Pick your top-priority, most-important goal to focus on first. Once you’ve chosen…
Either on your computer or paper, write down the goal you want to visualize and embody. Put several exclamation points behind it. Draw several underlines beneath it. Point arrows to it. Put hearts and stars and smiley faces around it. Surround it with your love. This goal is priority. Ultra important. Maybe the most important decision you are making at this point in your life. Give your goal the respect it deserves. Give it your all. That means don’t be wishy washy with it. Be committed. Connected to the Sacred Life Force. Unshakable from any outside illusory force. Your power is within. Focus on this one thing. Do you feel the power when you are that committed? When you do that, the world steps up and supports you.
Visualize
- Visualize means to co-create with the Divine a mental image – you can mentally see it, taste it, touch it, feel it, sense it – even be excited about it! This involves emotion, passion, desire. Lukewarm imaging equals lukewarm, if any, results. Really feel it deep down with a passion. Strong imaging transforms into strong results.
An example would be to express your goal symbolically in a painting. Another is to insert your goals onto a Faith Wheel. A third could be to list out a menu, knowing that what you order will be brought to you. What other ways of visualizing are meaningful to you?
For me, I put it on a Faith Wheel that ways, Thank You God/Jesus, My Source for….and list the goal and the resulting reality. I see the project as already completed, trusting in God for the timing, the how, and the final actualization. When I do that, I feel the excitement. I’m there.
This is the prayer I say:
Thank You, God, for turning this (goal), into a reality greater than I even imagined, all according to your will.
- Write down your image/s? There might be several.
How do you feel about those images? Secure? Positive? Foolish? Uncertain? Doubtful? Fearful? Or determined. Confident. Without doubt. Powerful.
- Do you feel the Divine is a co-partner in the process, and that you’ve opened up to and surrendered to Divine Will? If not, then how might you accomplish that vital connection?

HELPFUL GOETHE QUOTES:
“Magic is believing in yourself, if you can do that, you can make anything happen.”
― Johann Wolfgang von Goethe“The person born with a talent they are meant to use will find their greatest happiness in using it.”
― Johann Wolfgang von GoetheAt the moment of commitment the entire universe conspires to assist you.
“What is not started today is never finished tomorrow.”
― Johann Wolfgang von Goethe“Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back– Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation), there is one elementary truth that ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves too. All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one’s favor all manner of unforeseen incidents and meetings and material assistance, which no man could have dreamed would have come his way. Whatever you can do, or dream you can do, begin it. Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it. Begin it now.” Goethe

What Do You Want – Really? Part 2: Turning Your Wants Into Goals
If you did the suggested work in Part One of What Do You Want – Really? then you made at least a partial list of items or situations you really want to come true – the deep-down wants beyond the superficial wants. If you haven’t yet made even a partial list, then please reread What Do You Want – Really?
Why? Because unless you know what you want – really, then you won’t accomplish what you truly desire – even if it is merely to survive. But go for more than survival. This is your life! There are miracles waiting for you once you know what you want most desperately, and how to bring that desperate desire into reality, which will be in Part 3, Turning Your Goals Into Realities.
But for now we’re talking about turning those wants into goals.
As I mentioned in Part 1, the question of what you really want seems like it would be easy to answer, but it is often one of the most difficult questions we ask ourselves. Especially if our lives are tied up with a sociopath who bans self-thought of what we want for ourselves or our children. You might feel you aren’t allowed to choose for yourself, that in doing so you will suffer punishment for daring to do so. Which means, often, to be safe and to try to maintain peace, or lack of abuse, you merely go along with what the sociopath dictates. For survival, maybe what you want is not to be hit again. But is that what you want – really? These are tough questions when life is tough. But, and this is important, unless you know what you really want, you’ll never get to where you truly want to be.
At this moment in time, the challenge is to now take that list of wants and turn them into goals.
What is the difference?
- Wants means to merely wish for something to happen.
- Goals are focused targets where you’ve made a commitment. Commitment is necessary in following through with what you feel you’re Divinely guided to do. Folliwng through means the steps you take in order to bring those goals into reality, which will be in Part 3, Turning Your Goals Into Realities.
FROM TRUTH: IMPORTANT! If what you want is to stop the abuse, click on the link: Stop the Abuse
Let’s assume you’ve made a list – even if it is only in your head so that someone else doesn’t see it and lash out at you. Your list will depend on where you are in life, your situation, your unhappiness with where you are, and what you feel is important to do to improve your situation.
For example: If you are, unfortunately, linked in some capacity with a sociopathic personality, then merely wanting to survive the abuse seems like all you might be able to accomplish. But let’s go beyond that situation.
If you could do anything without recourse, what would you like your life to look like? Peaceful? Happy? Free? Living without fear? Think deeply about this question. Your life might depend on it.
If you don’t like your situation, then how might you want to change it? If you naively believe that your love will change that sociopath, then think again. They don’t think like you do. They have a different agenda. They might plead and beg and say how sorry they are and that it will never happen again, but it will. In fact, the longer you tolerate abuse, the worse it will grow because you are encouraging their bad behavior. At that point, you are becoming part of the problem.
Think about yourself, and your children if you have any. Don’t let them grow up knowing and experiencing abuse. They will either become the abuser, or the recipient of abuse. You are their example. Be a good one!
Going back to our potential example:
- First, you want – really – to get out of your toxic situation – safely! You should never allow anyone to abuse you or bully you either physically or emotionally. As I said before, if you allow it, you are part of the problem. How do you do that?
-
- See Link: How to Stop the Abuse. There are links there you can contact for help. There is legal advice, financial assistance, places you can go, and more.
NOTE: Ties to family and friends might have been cut by the abuser/controller. Usually that is a mirage and your friends and family care very much about what happens to you but have lost a means of contact. With that said:
-
-
- Family and/or Friends: it depends on your family and friends whether they are supportive of your getting away, or don’t believe you have a problem and tell you to stay, or, you made the original choice, now live with it. Wrong! No one is so perfect as to know everything about everyone, and sometimes we, in good faith, get sucked into a bad situation. You might realize that if your family can help you, and you are in a dangerous relationship, that you will most likely need to find an unexpected location for you, and children if you have them. But think of the freedom! Of living without fear!
- Church: Again, it depends on the church pastor. They might be understanding and helpful, or they might tell you that you would be sinful to try to leave and to start life over. If they are the understanding type, they will probably have suggestions on how to help you.
- Police/Sheriff: Yet again, it depends on the person and their laws as to what they can do. As long as your abuser/controller isn’t connected with the police/sheriff, you might be all right going to them for help and/or advice. They might not be able to do anything unless the person is caught in the act of abuse, but you can at least ask.
- Local nonprofits who are there to help you in your situation.
-
- Second, starting over. Begin thinking about the urgings of your heart. Unearth those long-buried dreams. Those are God-seeds planted within your heart that will bring you the greatest joy. True, you might have to do something short-term to bridge the gap between where you are and where you want to be, but remember, it doesn’t matter what you do, as long as you do what you do with love – from being a janitor, or waiting tables, or being President. Do it with love. All are noble occupations and equally important. No person is more important than any other because we are all God-creations, created by the same God from the same God-stuff. Pray, ask God for help.
In the above potential example, you’ve gone from Wishing, to Commitment. You’ve moved from Wants, to Goals. Something on which you can focus and work.
Perhaps your wants aren’t as extreme as the potential example, but you get the idea.
For another example: Your want might be to be wealthy. But what do you really want? What the wealth might provide? Security? Travel? A home? Joy? Happiness? Merely having wealth doesn’t guarantee any of those outcomes. Perhaps you want fame? Why? To feel you are noticed and important? Or, to the other side, that you have a skill or talent you would love to share with the world so as to help people. Just being famous doesn’t mean you are happy and fulfilled. You don’t need to be famous to matter. You matter now. You are important now. Go beyond the superficial wants to the life-enriching goals that really matter, that really make a difference. This is your life. With God’s help and guidance, you can make it the most rewarding and fulfilling life possible.
Keep working on your list. Move your wants to goals, tangibles where you will focus your energy and effort. Do feel something positive stirring within your heart? Do you feel hope? If so, you are amazing to get to this point. It takes courage, AND FAITH.
ALWAYS PRAY AND ASK FOR HELP. Then listen for the answers or be aware of subtle changes in your life.
EXPECT A MIRACLE.
REMEMBER: You do not have to know the HOW, only the WHAT. The Divine takes care of the how. In fact, the Divine is with you through everything – the entire process – as a co-creator of which goals are best for you, your belief in and trust that the goals are already yours, along with the Divine Implementer carrying out the how to a successful result – thought into form, cause into effect.

What Do You Want – Really? Part 1
“If you could place an order, like from a menu, knowing it would be brought for you, what would you ask for? What do you want?”
“What do you want, really”, seems an easy question, but it is often one of the most difficult questions we ask ourselves. Especially if our lives are tied up with a sociopath who bans self-thought of what we want for ourselves or our children. Do you feel you aren’t allowed to choose for yourself? That in doing so you will suffer punishment of some kind? So, to be safe and try to maintain peace, or lack of abuse, you merely go along with what the sociopath dictates? For survival, maybe what you want is not to be hit again. But is that what you want – really? These are tough questions when life is tough. But, and this is important, unless you know what you really want, you’ll never get to where you truly want to be.

The following post is to help you take control of your life by knowing what you want – not an easy answer. Hope you enjoy the excerpt From the book Divine Messages from Jesus for a magnificent life p. 2015. p. 207-211. Cathey, Carolyne.

Carolyne Cathey writes…
WHAT DO YOU WANT?’
The following are three quotes on this topic from Jesus, my Spiritual Mentor:
Jesus wants me to share these quotes to benefit you:
“What do you want? Partner with the Divine to know what is best for you. Open up to possibilities and true-heart’s-desires you never had the courage to express, or even more, to go for. How can you experience the life you truly want if you don’t know what that is?” ~ Jesus
“Free will is your gift from the Creator. Your power lies in your freedom to choose. No one can take that power from you unless you allow it. Choose well. Choose from your unlimited supply of options and answers provided by the Divine, for you.” ~ Jesus
“In reality, you are choosing continuously. Everything you do is a choice – every thought, every word, every action. The key is to choose well.”
And yet, to choose well, first, know what you want.
Do you see how it all cycles back to knowing what you want? Knowing what you want is crucial. How do you decide what you want? Some of us have a tendency to merely drift – and often to drift along with the current of what others want. Sometimes, through fear or false sense of security, we go for what is expected, or safe, or traditional, or the easy route.
Have you felt challenged in knowing what you really want?
The following is a true story of a Divine Message I (Carolyne) received that I call…
“What Do You Want?”
One day I was driving a winding rural road to attend Sunday Celebration at our local Spiritual Center. While steering around the curves, I conversed with my inner Jesus/Christ/Mentor/guide/friend about my upcoming financial needs for our grandson’s graduation, airline tickets for the children, birthdays, and on and on for all the things I wanted to provide for the people I love.
“What do you want?” the Divine voice interrupted.
After recovering from the surprise of audibly hearing his voice, I thought a minute. “Abundance for the children and grandchildren…”
“That’s for someone else. What do you want?”
“Well, a higher spiritual path….”
“You already have that. What do you want?”
Everything I thought of was to benefit someone else. And every time, he said…
“No, what do you want? Everyone else is being taken care of. What do you want for you?”
I was at a loss to come up with anything specific for me, personally. “That’s really hard!” I responded. I thought for a day and still hadn’t really come up with anything in particular. I asked him, “Would you help me? Would you tell me what I should ask for?”
To my shock, he said…
“No, you must do this on your own. You have gone all through your life letting other people make your decisions for you. People ask you to do something to help them, and you do, and you make it your own. But they were the ones who made the decision for you.
“If you could place an order, like from a menu, knowing it would be brought for you, what would you ask for? What do you want?”
I’ll admit, I was stumped. Later I said, “Maybe the answer is that I don’t need anything.”
“I’m not going to let you get by with that. What do you want? What would you like to do on this earth in this human experience while you are still here to do it? What will you regret if you don’t do it while you’re alive in the physical? While you have the chance? It’s your time!”
Once I dared think of what I wanted, I started writing everything down. I was amazed. For most of the list there was no reason for me not to have them. Some items were small things like flowers, tabletop water fountains, pretty rocks, candles and books, and, and… There were some bigger things too, which is why I suggest you start writing down everything that gives you pleasure, realizing you never choose anything that restricts anyone else’s freedom. This is about you.
The important part is to know what you want!! How can you go for it, or accomplish it, if you don’t even know what that is?
For example, when we were vacationing with the children, those who knew what they wanted to do we made sure we did it – like playing golf, tennis, ocean fishing, horseback riding on the beach, boogie boarding, white water rafting, their favorite restaurants, seeing friends they hadn’t seen for a year… If they hadn’t first made definite choices and verbalized them, their greatest desires wouldn’t have occurred, and we would have spent time on other ‘stuff’ that wasn’t as meaningful to them. Their definite desires determined the schedule, like a road map.
This message is true for you.
My suggestion to you is to start writing down things or experiences that give you joy, make you feel good and express your inner passion. List everything. Then go beneath the surface-wants to what you really want.
For instance, after working on this exercise, I suddenly discovered that what I originally thought I wanted is really only a superficial want, not the core. For example, I originally said I wanted to be able provide abundance for my children and grandchildren. After several months, the realization ‘aha’d that providing for the children/grandchildren wasn’t what I really wanted. What I really wanted was for my children and grandchildren to be independent and responsible for their own abundance. That’s where their true joy would lie. They would be freer and not dependent on me or anyone else.
By the way, when I went back to my list several weeks later, I realized that much of them had already happened, and the others were in progress.
I challenge you to make your own list, and then go deeper with your thinking. Drill down to the real want. Dig so deeply that you unearth long-buried dreams. This moment is the time to unearth them, clean them off, and bring them to the light and fresh air. Give them to God. Prepare for miracles.
So, I ask you what Jesus asked me…
What do you want?
NOTE: Knowing what you truly want might take time. Also, you might benefit from doing this exercise at least once a year because your goals will change, especially after some are completed, and after you gain courage to go more boldly for those dreams.

EXERCISES for ‘What do you Really Want?’
Don’t worry about any kind of conenction or pattern. Don’t take into consideration whether or not you feel it is possible or realistic. Put fear away. It doesn’t belong here in this exercise. Merely write what comes to you.
But First: What is the most important action for you to take before doing these exercises? Ask for Divine Guidance. Then listen. Ignore fear and open your mind and heart to the intuition, the messages.
We are going to approach what might be your wants from several different angles, so if some of it seems repetitive, it’s for a reason.
REMEMBER, this is your chance. It’s your time!
NOTE: YOU DO NOT NEED TO KNOW THE HOW!
YOU ARE ONLY TO DETERMINE THE WHAT. The DIVINE SUPPLIES THE HOW.
- WRITE DOWN WHAT YOU ENJOY, what gives you pleasure, big or small.
- WHAT ARE YOUR PASSIONS? What really matters to you? This is a huge clue for you, put within you by the Divine. Listen to those clues. What are your passions?
- WHAT IS YOUR HEART IS URGING YOU TO DO, or is tugging you in a certain direction that you would LOVE as a result for your life if you had more faith and knew it would turn out well?
Dig beneath the surface or superficial wants to the real wants.
- WHAT DREAMS ARE LONG-BURIED you might want to unearth?
- What would you like to do on this earth in this human experience while you are still here to do it?
- If you were at the end of your life looking backwards, what would you regret not having the courage to do?
- If you could pick anything for you and your life that you consider a dream existence, what would that look like?
Read through your answers, share some of them if you want.
- What are the similarities?
- Is anything missing?
- Is there a pattern in what you wrote?
- Did your working on this open up any ‘aha!’s’ for you?
- Did something come to mind that is an inspiration for you to follow?
- Circle the ones that are most important to you – a starting place.
HOW MIGHT YOU BE GETTING IN YOUR OWN WAY IN FOLLOWING THROUGH ON the WANTS you just listed?
- FEAR – how many ways does that fear come through?
NOTE: YOU DO NOT NEED TO KNOW THE HOW!
YOU ARE ONLY TO DETERMINE THE WHAT. The DIVINE SUPPLIES THE HOW.
Final question: Has this exercise been helpful?
“What do you want? Partner with the Divine to know what is best for you. Open up to possibilities and true-heart’s-desires you never had the courage to express, or even more, to go for. How can you experience the life you truly want if you don’t know what that is?” ~ Jesus
I suggest you take these comments and go inward, ask for Divine help and guidance. Give loving thought to your wants. They will determine your life. Don’t worry about the how. Trust. Have faith. Trust.
REMEMBER, this is your chance. NOW is your time!
