Unconditional Love

The Power of Surrender

Posted on Updated on

SURRENDER IS THE most powerful decision you make. It is also the most fulfilling, the answer to everything in your life. Surrender to your Higher Power, not to any human.

“When you fully ‘get it’ that you are one with your Source, which is your only Source of supply, and that supply is unlimited, including the answers to all of your questions, then all you have to do is align your will with the One Supplier of All so that you ‘allow’ that unlimitedness to flow through you—the complete healing of Oneness.” ~ Jesus. Divine Messages from Jesus. p. 389. 2015. Cathey, Carolyne.

At this highest level of awareness is when you surrender all hindrances holding you back and choose “Not my will, but Thine be done.”

Surrendering doesn’t mean your individuality dissolves into bland non-existence. To the contrary. It allows your individuality to expand into all of the splendor it truly is if you would but let go of all the painful, inefficient baggage that is veiling the truth of who you are—God’s love in action.

‘Surrender’ results in ‘bliss’, which is a feeling many expressed in near-death-experiences after leaving the physical. ‘Surrendering now’ means you can experience bliss right here, right now, while still on this earthly plane.

Surrender is letting go of what isn’t the truth—the illusion of separation.

Surrender is trading the delusion of illusion for the Reality of Truth. Surrender means surrendering, or letting go of what you are not—the small self imprisoned within the belittling confines of ego—and choosing, instead, to live the expansive truth of who you already are right now and always—one with the Power of the Universe. It means realigning with your true Eternal Source. You surrender your small-self ego and allow the ‘no separation’ of all love, all answers, all solutions, through Pure Intelligence and Pure Love, to flood into you with unlimited abundance and bliss.

Hesitancy and doubt about surrendering comes from being in your head and not your heart.

The head: Being in control. A tendency to over-analyze, wanting to know the how and all of the details leading up to and through the shift, and what is the end result on the other side of the shift, hesitant to move forward until you have it all worked out. And yes, your mind is part of the Great Mind, but if you allow your head to take over without balance, you are continually in the ‘over-analyzing mode’ instead of the ‘faith and trust mode’. You might not be listening to the Great Mind because yours is too busy whirling like leaves in a storm.

The heart: You trust from your heart. The heart is your inner urgings, feelings, intuitions, and knowing that moving forward is the right direction even though you don’t know how or have tangible proof. Faith tugs at your heart assuring you that you are being guided in the right direction. Trust is your commitment by taking that first step in the right direction, knowing your Spiritual Guides support you with the how and when. An unexpected benefit of choosing from the heart, is peace.

Logic: The Divine is Love. The Divine only creates from Love. That truth means you have nothing to fear. You might not know the how—that is where trust comes into it—but if your heart is pulling you in a new direction, then listen to your heart. The message is from the Great Love, which can only result in your Good.

Surrender is love—love for yourself and God— letting go of everything else and trusting in your Source that is the Greatest and Wisest Power in the Universe.

SURRENDER is LOVE. SURRENDER is POWER.

Meaning: Surrender is choosing to enjoy the most meaningful life available to you by turning your life over to the Creator of Life. The One that knows all from the God-Perspective. The One that knows what is the most fulfilling for you.

Surrender isn’t anything to fear, but to embrace. You have nothing to lose, and everything to gain.

GIVE YOUR LIFE TO GOD.

Surrendering doesn’t mean your individuality dissolves into bland non-existence. To the contrary. It allows your individuality to expand into all of the splendor it truly is if you would but let go of all the painful, inefficient baggage that is veiling the truth of who you are—God’s love in action.

The Power of Surrender is an excerpt from the book, Divine Messages from Jesus. p. 389-392. 2015. Cathey, Carolyne.

Powerful Life-Changing Beatitudes -#8: Blessed are those who are persecuted…

Posted on Updated on

The Beatitudes reveal powerful meanings that are rarely understood. This deeper understanding can help you reclaim your inner power.

With permission of Carolyne Cathey, author, inspirational speaker and spiritual counselor. From her talk on “The Joy of the Beatitudes”. (Right sidebar audio player).

5:10-12   #8 “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.  Blessed are you when men revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad for your reward is great in heaven, for so men persecuted the prophets who were before you.”

This final one might be the most difficult. What does it mean for us?

Note in this last Beatitude where the wording shifts from blessed are those, to blessed are you, the only time this happens. It changes from Blessed are those who are persecuted – generic – to a very personal blessed are you when men revile you and persecute you. The reason is because this Beatitude isn’t referring to the internal work you go through that you celebrate in the previous Beatitudes. This is a head’s up that refers to a potential rejection of you by others when you follow your spiritual path of truth and love; Jesus wants you to be aware of that possibility and not be discouraged or turned off your path, but to stay strong in your faith.

In the last sentence, He said “Rejoice and be glad for your reward is great.” The word for glad means to leap exceedingly. It is the leaping-for-joy runner who overcomes all obstacles in their path and crosses the finish line in truth and integrity.

Why the warning?

The truth is frightening to many people when it is different from what they believe. When frightened, people often persecute those who believe differently, call them names, slander them, try to destroy their reputations, ridicule, express hatred, and even kill. When we embody love no matter what is coming at us from other’s fear-caused reactions, we are strengthened with God-confidence while serving the world in honesty and integrity. Is that not what we all choose no matter the chaos and negativity around us? To stand solid in the Divine Truth?

Again, this is not something we try to do on our own. That is believing in separation, not Oneness. We are empowered when we surrender to our Inner Authority that knows the truth, shares the truth. This is not something we earn. It is a gift. A gift from God.

So we might paraphrase…

Oh the godlike joy when we are persecuted for embodying God’s truth, because when we surrender, emptying ourselves of fear and misperceptions, we open ourselves to receiving Divine Truth which strengthens us to be that which we truly are – love. And when we do, we inspire others to also express God’s love. This is joy.

I pray that the core of Jesus’ teachings expressed in the Beatitudes, touches you in new, inspiring and powerful ways. We are to emblazon these truths on our hearts, and live them.

To summarize…

We celebrate when we:

  1. Surrender and place our trust in God.
  2. Realize that despite our mistakes, God loves us anyway.
  3. Are teachable and open to God’s truth.
  4. Are filled with God’s goodness through surrender.
  5. See others as God sees them.
  6. See with pure intentions through God’s lens of love.
  7. Make peace within our own hearts.
  8. Are empowered by God when we live the Divine truth, which is love.

The Beatitudes are, in reality, about surrender. The only way we can follow these powerful life-changing truths is to merge our desires with God’s so that they are one desire – God’s will.  Surrender is the answer to everything.

To share a quote that I received in a Divine message, Jesus said…

Once you get oneness, everything else falls in place.”

In closing, the distilled truth of the Beatitudes

We celebrate when we surrender everything we are to God that has all of the answers to all of our challenges, knowing that when we are emptied of self, we are filled with the Divine.

I hope you’ve enjoyed the series on The Beatitudes as much as I’ve enjoyed sharing them. The previous seven blessings are linked below.

5:9 #7 Blessed are the peace-makers, for they shall be called sons of God.

In Hebrew peace is never only a negative state; it never means only the absence of trouble; in Hebrew peace always means everything that serves one’s highest good. But peace starts within us. So, we could say…

Oh the god-like joy when our own inner warfare is finally over and we make peace within our own heart and in our own soul. Then, along with the Source of Peace, we may serve as peacemakers to bless the world. This is joy!

5:8 #6 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.

The Greek word for pure means unmixed, unadulterated, unalloyed. It requires self-examination. Is our work done from motives of service or from motives of pay or acknowledgment, from being self-less, or from self-display, from a feeling of unity, or of superiority?  This is about intent, and perceptions.

It is difficult to see a purity beyond our own flawed perceptions, because we see everything through that flawed lens. The purer our sight, the purer the lens through which we view everything, the more purity we recognize. Total pureness recognizes total pureness. The only way we can see with such clarity is when we surrender all we are to the Divine and see ourselves and others as God sees us, which is through the lens of love.

So, then, this sixth beatitude might read:

Oh the godlike joy of choosing from pure intentions because when we do, through surrender, we see everything as God sees, which is always through the lens of love. That is joy!

5:7 #5 Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.

There is more to this beatitude than the obvious. The Hebrew word for mercy is one of several untranslatable words where our English is insufficient. It means to see others as God sees them. When we do that, like God, not only do we not judge them, but also we respond with compassion and understanding. Even more, it is seeing ourselves in others, like a reflection. It is being that which we choose to receive. We can only see as God sees through surrender.

So the translation of the fifth beatitude might read:

O the god-like joy when we get right inside other people until we can see with their eyes, think with their thoughts, feel with their feelings, see them as God sees them, for when we do, our hearts open with love and compassion. To be able to see as God sees is only possible through surrender. In doing so, we, too, receive mercy. That is joy!

5:6 #4 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.

The hunger which this beatitude describes is no genteel hunger. It is the hunger of the person who is starving for food, and the thirst of one who will die unless they drink.

There is one further point which only emerges in the Greek. It could have said I want some of the bread, but not the whole loaf. I want some of the water, but not the entire container. The wording Jesus used means I want the whole loaf of bread. I want the entire container of water. I want it all.

I really struggled for days with the research on this beatitude because whatever I found, Jesus told me through prayer was inadequate for what he really said. That it lacked the total truth and the power of this message. So finally after several days, and still being told I was missing something important, I was guided to do an automatic writing exercise where I pray, ask the question, and then write whatever comes through to me.

This is what I received:

Write what I tell you. Write of love. Write of longing for a right relationship with God. A loving relationship. A powerful relationship. That the only way we can be right with God is to surrender to God’s will, and allow God to direct our relationship. A right relationship with God is not from us directing the way, but God doing the Divine will through us, empowering us, empowering others. That is a right relationship with God.

I asked if there is anything else?  He said,

It’s our hearts. The longing in our hearts. We have to really want a right relationship with God, not to be afraid of it, but to embrace it. Not a tepid desire, but an all or nothing quest, knowing that this is where lies our bliss and we won’t’ settle for anything less than the highest and best. He said talk about the Truth. The burning Truth. The purifying truth. A truth that challenges us to dare to live as God would have us live. How much, how badly do we want a right relationship with God? A loving relationship? A powerful relationship? An all-time 24/7 relationship, not just when we don’t have anything better to do. All or nothing.

What I finally realized:

It’s not that we must have goodness so that we can connect with God, it’s that we connect with God so that we can have goodness. God is our source for goodness. If we want all from God, then we must first surrender and give our all to God.

Wow. That really is a challenge. Like Jesus shared during the prayer message, there is only one way we can accomplish this directive, and it is with…

Surrender, for only through surrender do we have the total access to and fulfillment of goodness and right relationship with God for which we hunger. Do you sense the surrender pattern Jesus is teaching us in the first half of the beatitudes? When you really think about it, Surrender is the answer to everything. Surrender is the answer.

So…

O the godlike joy when we hunger and thirst for a right relationship with God as the highest priority in our lives because we want all that God offers. In our heart-longing desperation we surrender everything we are and do to the Divine, allowing the loving, purifying and powerful goodness to so fill us to overflowing that we can’t but live and share that goodness all of the time – God’s will flowing through us. Through surrender we are satisfied. This is joy

5:5 #3 Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.

Meek doesn’t mean weak, wimpy, shyly cowering in silence. In Aramaic, the word translated as “meek” means literally those who have softened what is rigid inside. That means when we are rigid about our thinking we are not open to any other viewpoint, even God’s. In our rigidity, we block ourselves from receiving and experiencing the Real Truth, the Eternal Truth. When we soften inside, we become teachable.

Restated:

Oh the god-like joy when we soften what is rigid inside and become teachable by the Divine, opening to and accepting the Eternal Truth, freeing us to experience the highest and best physical life possible while on planet earth. This is joy.

The Beatitudes reveal powerful meanings that are rarely understood. This deeper understanding can change your life whether you are living with or know a narcissistic sociopath, or are one. Read below to see why.

5:4 #2 Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.

The specific Greek word for ‘to mourn’ used originally, is the strongest word for mourning in the Greek language. It is the word which is used for mourning for the dead, for the passionate lament for one who was loved.

For what do we mourn as if it were a type of death? When we are spiritually destitute and finally surrender all to our Source, we realize what a mess we’ve made of our lives. We mourn for our regrets, our mistakes, things we said or did wrong, perhaps hurting ourselves, or others. Words and actions we wish we could retract but we can’t, regrets that tear us up inside. We mourn that, in our ignorance, we blunder our way through life, too often missing out on what might have been our bliss if we’d seen or understood more clearly. It is when we look back on our lives at the moment of death and regret what we didn’t have the courage to go for and that it is now too late.

So, paraphrased:

Oh the God-like joy when we finally admit and mourn for our mistakes, for the shambles we made of our lives, because we are comforted by the realization that, mistakes and all, we are loved by God anyway, unconditionally, without judgment, which is precisely how we are to love ourselves, and others. There is no greater comfort than this. To be loved anyway. This is joy.

Healing Guilt, Shame and Regret

Posted on Updated on

I’m posting an informative and helpful article by Carolyne Cathey

Guilt-image-for-web-blogHave you, at least once in your life, felt guilt, shame and/or regret?

Congratulations! You share a commonality with anyone who has ever experienced, or will experience, life in the physical.

Here is a quote from the “Divine Messages from Jesus” book, Chapter 11, by Carolyne Cathey.

“You mistakenly believe that outside forces control you, when in reality it’s the forces inside of you that affect you. I am inside of you. God is inside of you. There is no greater power. This power gives you freedom from bondage to whatever you believe is injustice. But first you must forgive others, and yourself, because forgiveness breaks the chains of domination, releasing the inner power, releasing you, freeing you, transferring the power to where it rightfully belongs—with you.” ~ Jesus, Divine Message

The three negative emotions – Guilt, shame and regret – are important to recognize – and to feel – and yet are wounding when not faced, acknowledged and released, and this is most important – when you don’t forgive yourself.  Self-forgiveness. That means unconditional love of yourself – as you are loved by your Creator, without judgment, and with compassion. That is how you are loved by your Source, the example of how you are to love others – and yourself. And yet, this is often the most difficult to accomplish. So how do we do it?

This post addresses five segments:

  1. GIVING YOURSELF PERMISSION TO FEEL THOSE EMOTIONS.
  2. WHY SELF FORGIVENESS IS IMPORTANT
  3. WHY IS SELF FORGIVENESS SO CHALLENGING? What holds us back?
  4. THE SECRET TO LETTING GO
  5. AND THE MOST SURPRISING: GRATITUDE
1.   PERMISSION TO FEEL

This is significant, it’s okay to feel guilt, shame and regret. You have my permission. In fact, you can’t live life in the physical without experiencing them. They reveal that you care. But what is imperative to a healed life is not to get mired in them. Don’t be ashamed of your emotions. Feel them! But even when the pain wrenches so deeply within you that you doubt you’ll ever be free of it, there is still something for which to be grateful, and that is –gratitude that you CAN feel.

Some people are challenged with a certain type of personality trait in that they don’t feel any emotion. Can you imagine not feeling love, or even remorse and guilt? I am not a psychological expert, but my belief is that these people have hardened their hearts, encasing them in an invisible protective barrier to keep from feeling long-ago early-childhood hurts from people they trusted, and have vowed never to allow anyone to hurt them again. These are people who seem incapable of feeling love, joy and compassion. There are wounded souls who have either been hurt by those who don’t feel emotions, or those who truly don’t feel. The emotionless ones ask really tough questions, like

What does love feel like? What does regret feel like? What is sadness? How can I feel something when I don’t know how it feels?

I promise you, you don’t want that for you. If that happens to be one of your personality challenges, you are encouraged to work with someone who can help you connect with a better, more meaningful life-path – a feeling path. That takes courage, by the way. There is a lot of fear associated with both sides of the issue. Change is possible, though, not matter what you here. But first, you must choose to change.

What I’m saying is that if you feel, guilt, shame and regret, you are blessed. Emotions are there for you to experience. If you don’t experience them, you can’t relate to others who do feel them. But as I stated before, the trick is not to get stuck there and allow it to negatively impact your life. However, you can’t move forward if you don’t acknowledge them, which is the first challenge. Recognizing the issue is there.

2.   WHY IS SELF-FORGIVENESS IMPORTANT?

For one, you aren’t the only one affected by your difficulty in not forgiving yourself. You, yes, but the ones around you are also affected, innocents, like children, family, friends, your job, projects, and the planet.

Think of some of your life choices you made when you were or are mired in guilt, in shame, in regret. My guess is that your choices made from that hurting place weren’t the most positive ones for your life. Most are fear-based. Our negative feelings about ourselves shift our behavior, our thoughts, our actions, our choices, our inner battle between self-love and self-disgust, not even considering what kind of example we are setting for ourselves and others. It affects everything!

Sometimes we withdraw into our own protective shell, vowing we will never allow anyone to hurt us again. Isn’t that what we do when we feel guilt and shame? We withdraw, perhaps pretend to the world we are not upset – That kind of reaction doesn’t heal. It doesn’t free you.

The following is a compilation quote about forgiveness from Chapter 11 of the Divine Messages from Jesus Book on why this step to healing is crucial: Reasons why Self-forgiveness matters.

“In truth, you can’t heal until you forgive. Forgiveness expands you, deepens you, and allows the inner light to shine more brightly from within you because you’ve removed limitations hindering you from expressing and living the fullness of your being. Forgiveness opens you more fully into who you really are—Oneness within Spirit. One within God.” Jesus, Divine Message

Sounds good right? Sounds easy? Maybe not so much. Then why is it so difficult?

3.   WHAT ARE THE HINDRANCES TO FREEING OURSELVES FROM GUILT, SHAME AND REGRET?

If that quote is true, and it is, then why is forgiveness, and especially self-forgiveness so problematic?

Which of these might fit in with your thinking?

  • You might believe you don’t deserve to release it, that for your punishment you should suffer the agony for the rest of your life.
  • You might be angry with God or have turned your back on God.
  • There might be instances or injustices in your life where forgiveness seems impossible—anything from a lost child, murder, rape, sexual or physical abuse, debilitating illness, unfairness in your career, betrayal, cheating spouse, bullying at school or at home . . . and the list continues. There are many past or current issues where you might think you cannot ever forgive that person, or circumstance, or yourself—or God.
  • Identity. The decision to forgive is sometimes frightening because you’ve identified with that injustice as part of who you are, and letting go can feel somewhat like being a tetherless balloon blown away in search of a new, unknown identity.
  • You can even feel guilt if you were the one attacked or betrayed, because the ‘what ifs’ still haunt. What if I had yelled louder, hadn’t gone down that street, told my parents/his wife/the police, thought before I spoke, fought harder against temptation, loved myself more, trusted more in God, showed love instead of anger, what if what if what if?

Can you relate to any of those? How have those events How has the event shaped you and your life? Your joy? Your choices? Has that incident influenced the decisions you made that resulted in where you are right now?

If your unforgiveness negatively shaped your past choices, and maybe even your current choices, ask yourself if you are tired of the shackles and are ready to move toward freedom and power.

**NOTE: EVEN THOUGH THE PAST IS PART OF THE WHOLE, EACH BREATH IS A NEW BIRTH, A NEW BEGINNING. YOUR LIFE STARTS ANEW RIGHT THIS MOMENT.**

What do you choose for you? Ongoing self-flagellation, or freedom? How long do you continue to enslave yourself to your guilt? The rest of your life? Really?? Isn’t it time to release what no longer serves you? But how? How do you get unstuck?

4.   THE SECRET TO LETTING GO – LOVING YOUR PAST

From the “Divine Messages from Jesus” book, by Carolyne Cathey

Jesus said,

“Listen carefully. There is a secret to letting go of the regrets and it will sound the opposite of what you expect. Your supposed failure is because what you’ve been attempting is from the mind, not the heart. Remember how I’ve said that love is all that matters? What people often don’t realize, is that statement is true even of the past. What most do when trying to heal the past is try to forget it, to block it out, which is mental, when what is most healing is to work from the heart and embrace the past‑—to love it, love everything about you— including your past. Including your mistakes.

“Start this moment with healing and letting go of the past as you remember it and is no longer serving you. Without forgiveness, your past is an anchor chaining you from taking flight into all that is your full potential.

“As you remember it’ means that many, when they look at their past, mainly see and feel their regrets, guilt, anger, and even self-loathing for what they feel they should have done better—all of the should haves and why didn’t I’s. Sometimes you see yourselves as victims mired in pain and anger that you have difficulty releasing. Believing you are a victim is disempowering and conflicting—guilt that you didn’t somehow prevent it from happening, and yet continually giving someone else power over your life because you refuse to release it.

“What you don’t see is the glory in your past. You forget that you did what you believed was the right choice at the time, and there is glory in that. Those experiences are part of learning and growth.

“If you never made mistakes that would be the greatest mistake of all because, for one, that isn’t possible when in the physical, and for two, you wouldn’t have been taking the risks necessary for growth and development—you would have learned judgment and arrogance instead of understanding and compassion.”

Then Jesus reveals about the gift inside the pain.

“Mostly what no one recognizes is the gift inside even the sad and angry and painful moments. There is always a gift. Always, even though you might not recognize it for the blessing it is. The key to releasing the pain is to acknowledge those gifts, those treasures, despite the awfulness of the memories, so that you can truly love yourself for the wonderful being you are.”

Then he adds the challenge:

“This moment is the perfect time for you to dig out those past moments and send love to all of the negative memories and regrets and guilt. Discover the pearls within that are formed from the friction. Those pearls are yours to claim. Love those moments and accept them for what they are—life’s lessons—and love them as part of the treasure of who you are right now.

“Love and congratulate yourself for daring to live. Love is compassionate, so be compassionate. Love heals. And remember, you are not in this alone. Go inward and ask for help in the healing. Ask to see your past through God’s eyes, through the lens of love.”

The next hurdle, I will add, is to actually feel gratitude for those moments. But how? How do we go beyond forgiveness to gratitude for what seems impossible to release?

Have there been instances in your life where, once you got through the challenge, you were actually grateful it happened? Grateful for the results?

In reference to going beyond forgiveness to gratitude, Jesus said in the Divine message:

“In order for you to forgive, you must first have something to forgive. That’s where the gratitude comes in, to be thankful for the experiences providing you the opportunity for forgiveness that results in the growth and enrichment and strengthening and enlightenment of your soul. Every single thing you experienced, no matter how you labeled it, was a life-lesson leading you to realize your greatness despite all that is playing out around you. Each lesson has a pearl within, a treasure. Each lesson leads you to the truth that you are not alone—you are one with the Power of the Universe.

“Yes, be thankful. Be thankful to learn that you are not your experiences. Be thankful that I do not judge you and that you should not judge yourself or others. Be thankful that I am with you always. Be thankful that you are truly special and that I love you. I, too, when on this earth, was misunderstood, tortured and crucified, and yet I forgave. For your own personal healing and joy, I ask the same of you. Forgive. Then go beyond forgiveness, to gratitude.”

From a personal note, this truly does work. I know. I took his ‘secret’ and claimed the pearls I didn’t know were there, and would never have known if not for the message. Reaching from the heart, and not the mind, I released a lot of the fear when I realized that even if I could go back to try to change what happened, when I really thought about it, I would have made the same decision. In working through this, you find peace with your past, you learn to love yourself, feel good about yourself.

It’s time to heal your past. There is no better moment than right now. Why delay? Wouldn’t you like to move from guilt into healing?  From regret to inner peace and love? You deserve nothing less. You are magnificent. All you have to do is know that, no matter your life experiences, that “you are magnificent” is your truth.

To repeat:

EVEN THOUGH THE PAST IS PART OF THE WHOLE, EACH BREATH IS A NEW BIRTH, A NEW BEGINNING. YOUR LIFE STARTS ANEW RIGHT THIS MOMENT.

What do you choose for you? Ongoing self-flagellation, or freedom? Isn’t it time to release what no longer serves you?

The answer is yes, because in truth, you are magnificent.
